Usher really can sing -- the r&b superstar picked up a microphone at a Los Angeles nightspot and surprised partygoers by belting out a Jackson 5 classic!

Usher was hidden away in a VIP area at Sunset Strip bar Rock & Reilly's this week, and he decided to head downstairs to the main bar for a spot of karaoke.

He took to the stage for a performance of the Jackson 5's I'll Be There, and encouraged bar patrons to sing along.

"Usher had been hanging out upstairs in a private area with friends throughout the night - but came down around 1am to show the bar how karaoke is REALLY done," the insider told TMZ.
