Chris Brown Sentenced, Can't Contact Rihanna For the Next 5 Years!

Chris Brown has had his day in court following his arrest in February for the assault of his girlfriend Rihanna - and now he's not allowed to get into contact with her for the next 5 years!

That means he has to stay away at least 90 metres away from her at all times, as well as six months of hard community labour in his native Virginia, a year long domestic violence program, 5 years probation and several fines.

The singer, who reached a plea deal with prosecutors in June (09) in an effort to avoid jail, was in court on Tuesday (25Aug09) for sentencing in relation to his attack on the Umbrella singer.

Brown was arrested for beating and threatening Rihanna during an argument following a pre-Grammy Awards party.

Both stars pulled out of their planned performances at the awards show immediately after the incident.

The sentencing will also cost Brown almost $6,000 (AUD$7,185) - $5,000 (AUD$5987) in restitution and probation expenses. He must also pay a small criminal conviction fee and a $400 (AUD$279) to a domestic violence fund.

Speaking of his client outside the court, Rihanna's lawyer Donald Etra said, "She was advised of what the plea agreement would be and she did not object that... The court just imposed the sentence envisaged by the plea agreement.
