Vatican Slams Twilight Series As "Deviant"

21 November 2009

It was only a matter of time until the Vatican complained about the Twilight series.

The week, the Roman Catholic Church has slammed the Twilight Saga as a "moral vacuum with a deviant message."

The growing hype surrounding this week's worldwide release of 'New Moon' spurred concerns from Vatican officials who are urging parents to stop their kids watching the films and reading the books.

Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, of the Pontifical Council of Culture, says, "The theme of vampires in Twlight combines a mixture of excesses that as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element. It is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office. This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern."

It wasn't too long ago that the Vatican were saying the same thing about the Harry Potter book and film series, with the books being removed from some Catholic school libraries despite their mass popularity and the films grossing millions of dollars at the box office.

What do you guys think? Is the church right or are they overreacting?

Can't they effing understand what fiction is? It's not real and literally, It sends a good messages like get married before having sex and such. Honestly, I don't think they should point the finger saying what's wrong...

absolute bull! the story is about a hundred-something year old vampire, who refuses to have sex with his human girlfriend until their MARRIED. By a Catholic, no less. Oh and the vampire in question also believes in the big God. Gosh, how much more does the church want?!? Or is it just them complaining cause the books were written by a Morman??
