Dan England has certainly come a long way since his days as a service station attendant in Queensland. Within the short space of just one year, Dan won the hearts of a nation with his soulful and angelic voice, dreadlocked hairstyle and charismatic warmth to become one of the most popular finalists on the 2005 season of Australian Idol.
Before Idol, Dan's passion for music was just as strong. At the age of thirteen, Dan started playing in bands, performing in musicals and was involved in many other musical activities. He continued developing his talent through his teenage years, playing in several different bands, his music ranging from Metal to Irish Folk music.
In his high school years Dan completed a Certificate IV in music at Nudgee College Qld. He then went on to study a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University, where he majored in Vocals.
Deciding he needed to develop his live performance skills further, Dan deferred from University and moved to Brisbane City . Dan was working part time at a service station, and gigging in the Brisbane Pub scene, struggling to make ends meet, when the Australian Idol Series 3 auditions came to town. That's when the journey really started to take off.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Dan has pursued his musical dreams with great passion. With faultless renditions of songs by the Eagles and Otis Redding, Dan managed to evade the criticism of the Idol judging panel, and become a favorite of viewers around Australia .
During 2006, whilst supporting Shannon Nolls successful national sell-out tour, Dan has left no doubt that his stage presence is a force to be reckoned with. Not only an amazing singer, Dan is also an accomplished musician and songwriter and has co-written the first single from his debut mini-album Reason to Fly. Included on the mini-album are the tracks Stay and Feel which Dan also co-wrote with Tim Henwood (Super Jesus / Androids / Rogue Traders) and Jellyfish (Soul Asylum, Pulp and George, 3x Aria winners) who combined forces to produce his debut release. Dan has not only gained great support from the general public but also from The Australian music industry from such people as Diesel and David Campbell.
In 2007, Dan has been writing his new EP, The Deconstruction of Dan England'. Collaborations with Jeff Lang and Michael Stangel have made this upcoming EP something that you may not expect from Dan. It treads the line of rock and blues with honesty, desperation, in every lyric and note.
Embarking on a tour with his new band, The Thieves, Dan will be coming to every corner of Australia to promote his new EP to the people. The A year on the road' tour starting November 2007 to November 2008.
Combining the celebrity that is Idol with the hard work of a contemporary touring artist, Dan's journey continues.
