The parents of late R&B singer Aaliyah have filed a lawsuit against her record label, Virgin Records America.
Aaliyah, 22, was killed in a plane crash minutes after taking off from the Bahamas and headed for Florida. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles on behalf of Diane and Michael Haughton, Aaliyah's parents.
All nine people aboard the Cessna 402-B aircraft died, including two Virgin employees. Their families have also launched similar suits.
Consequent investigation has shown that the aircraft was at least 315kg overloaded. The Haughton lawsuit cites a "dangerous and unsafe configuration" of the lightweight aircraft that lead to the crash.
Aaliyah was best known for hits Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number, Try Again and We Need A Resolution. She also had successful staring roles in the films Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned.
